Description:
Image files can contain information that describes the image in the file. This information is called "meta data" and includes the camera settings used to capture the image and editorial information about the image. This information can be stored in a number of different "standard" formats, the most common being the EXIF, IPTC, and XMP formats.
The EXIFutils are a set of command line utilities that extract, add, remove, replace, and copy meta data fields in a variety of image formats. Supported file formats include JPEG, TIFF, Adobe DNG (digital negative), and RAW files from most major camera brands. The EXIFutils can be used in conjunction with scripting languages such as CGI and Perl to automate the generation of web pages and image catalogs based on meta data data.
